FELONIOUS

The moniker ‘Felonious’ suggests a criminally-minded jazz genius, which isn't that far off the truth."

Felonious is a boundary-breaking collective of artists dedicated to merging the energy of live Hip Hop music with the transformative power of theater. Since the beginning Felonious has been a force in the Bay Area theater and music scene – often creating series, projects and productions that merge the two mediums. From electrifying musical performances to critically acclaimed theatrical productions, this collective of rappers, actors, beat boxers, musicians, dancers, and writers are "known to turn Hip Hop shows into ass-shaking Musical Theater"

Felonious was founded to give voice to our generation and empower the next to do the same. Our mission is to harness the history and spirit of Hip Hop as a tool for activism and communication. With an unapologetically independent spirit, we fuse music and theater into a dynamic creative force that uplifts, inspires, and transforms. Our work isn’t just performance—it’s a movement, building bridges between art and activism, and championing the future of Hip Hop as a unifying art form.

The Bag

Written by Felonious (Carlos Aguirre, Keith Pinto, Tommy Soulati Shepherd, and Dan Wolf)
Commissioned by Aurora Theatre Company and its Originate+Generate new play development program.

The Bag tells a poignant and electrifying story about the sacrifices you make for your art. In the wake of Hip Hop's 50th anniversary, a lucrative offer brings four once-famous independent emcees back together. Now in their 50s, with families and financial responsibilities, these artists—who disbanded in the early 2000s—are asked to reunite for a private show at the 40th birthday party of a wealthy tech entrepreneur who admired their past work. Despite their initial reluctance, they agree to perform, but only for the money.

This show weaves together the live spectacle of their music set with a deeper exploration of their personal histories, the sacrifices they've made for their craft, and the search for meaning in a world driven by transactions.
